Install the mobile app

Use this page to install the mobile app and confirm it is working.

What you will do

  • Install the app on a phone
  • Sign in and enable the plugins you need
  • Confirm the app can sync or collect data

Steps

1) Install

  • Install the app from your team link (TestFlight, internal store, or MDM).
  • Install the latest build.

2) Sign in

  • Open the app.
  • Sign in with your study account.

3) Enable plugins

Plugins are modules like surveys, health, and sensors.

  • Open Settings - Plugins.
  • Turn on the plugins your study needs.

4) Do a quick test

  • If Surveys is enabled, complete one short survey.
  • If Sensors is enabled, keep the phone moving for 1-2 minutes.
  • Check the app status screen for "Last sync" or "Data received".

5) Find app logs

How you get logs depends on your build. Common options:

  • In-app: Settings - Support - Export logs
  • Android (dev): adb logcat

If you also use the downloader (CLI), CLI logs are here:

  • macOS and Linux: ~/.modtrack/logs/
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\\modtrack\\logs\\

Common mistakes

  • Installing an old build and missing required screens
  • Enabling plugins but skipping required setup steps
  • Using battery saver mode (background limits can block sensors)

Report issues

Include:

  • Phone model and OS version
  • App build number
  • Which plugins are enabled
  • App logs (exported from the app) and the time you tested
